About the Artist
Juan Carlos Rivera Cuadros was born in Palmira Valle del Cauca and grew up in Santiago de Cali Colombia. Before traveling to Germany for his university studies he entered the Guillermo Ruiz art academy where he learned different painting techniques such as drawing, pastel, oil and acrylic. During his time at the university, with the support of Guillermo Ruiz and Julio Cesar Sierra he experimented with different techniques of modern art. Between 2013 and 2015 he was part of the COLOMBIArtistica artists group where he participated in different group exhibitions in Belgium and Monaco (Maison de l’Amérique Latine de Monaco).
Later he made exhibitions and events with the support of the honorary consulate of Colombia in Stuttgart and the University of Stuttgart, where he studied chemical engineering. It is worth mentioning his first exhibition of the Pre-Columbian figure series “Präkolombische Kunst” with the support of the Colombian Consulate. In addition to this he participated in the group exhibition «Latinoamérica: una sola muestra. La unión de los Pueblos» in the General Consulate of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Frankfurt am Main.
In his work predominates the cubist and abstract expressionism where he shows a great load of textures accompanied by vivid tones, which together give his works a unique strength and vitality of the Latin American countries. The last exhibition of the artist took place at the Carrousel du Louvre «Art Shopping» where he showed his most recent works of the Pre-Columbian series. The combination of tonalities with the different figures in gold and earthenware of the Calima, Tumaco and Tairona cultures, on which the works are based, reveal along with a touch of modernism the sensations of the shamans in trance, communicating with other universes.
